Bare studs in. Smooth walls out.
You have a basement ready to finish. An addition framed and waiting. A garage that needs real walls. That is where we come in.
We hang new drywall across Richmond, VA. We measure and cut each sheet to fit. We screw the board tight to the framing. We tape every seam, build up the joint compound in coats, sand it smooth, and match texture. You get walls that are flat, tight, and ready for paint.
New drywall is simple work and easy to botch. Wavy seams, visible joints, screws popping through — all of it comes from rushing. We do not rush.
Where new drywall goes
Finished basements are our most common install. Richmond basements become family rooms, home offices, and guest suites. We hang walls and ceilings. We work around ducts and pipes. We leave the space ready for paint and trim.
Room additions come next. The framing is up, the electric and plumbing are roughed in, and the space needs walls. We close it in: hang, tape, finish, texture to match the rest of the house.
Garage conversions and upgrades are steady work too. Bare studs become finished walls. We can hang moisture-resistant board where damp air is a concern.
We also re-hang full rooms after damage. When water takes out whole walls, we put fresh board back up. When a remodel guts a room, we hang it new. Either way it finishes like new.
How it works
Good drywall starts before the first sheet goes up. We check the framing for straightness. A bowed stud telegraphs right through the board. We shim or plane what needs it so the wall starts flat.
We hang the board with screws, not nails. Screws hold tighter and pop less over time. Each screw sinks just below the paper surface — deep enough to dimple, shallow enough not to break the paper. Broken paper means zero holding power at that spot.
Sheets go up tight but not forced. Joints land on studs. We stagger the seams between rows so no long joint runs the full wall. Staggered seams are stronger and finish flatter.
On ceilings, we match board thickness to joist spacing. That keeps the ceiling from sagging between joists. A sagging ceiling is almost always a hanging mistake.
The mud coats matter most
Hanging is half the job. Finishing is the other half, and it is where installs succeed or fail.
We press paper tape into every seam with joint compound. Then we spread three coats of mud over the tape and fasteners. Each coat goes on wider than the last. Each coat dries fully before the next.
Skipping dry time is the number one reason seams show through paint later. Mud shrinks as it dries. A rushed second coat over damp first coat will crack or bubble. We never skip the wait.
Then we sand. We sand with dust control, working the seams until they are flat and the fastener spots vanish. Then we apply your texture — or leave it smooth if that is the look.
What we need from you
Clear the room if you can. We can work around some furniture, but empty rooms go faster and finish better. Take down wall hangings, curtains, and anything fragile.
Make sure the rough work is done first. Electric, plumbing, and insulation should be finished first. Hanging board too early means cutting it open again later.
Tell us about moisture. Basements and bathrooms need the right board. If the space has had water issues, say so — we plan the install around it.
A Richmond install, start to finish
A typical basement takes about a week of work plus drying time. Day one and two: hang. Days three through five: tape and mud coats, with dry time between. Then sand, texture, and final touch-ups.
Additions move on the builder's schedule. We slot in after rough-in and before trim. Tell us your timeline when we quote and we will tell you honestly if it fits.
Every install ends the same way. Smooth walls. Matched texture. Clean floors. We walk through with you before we call it done.
